Guildford County School Consultation on change to Admission Arrangements 2023 2024

We have a statutory duty to consult on admissions arrangements if we intend to make a change, therefore, Guildford County School is consulting on admission arrangements for 2023.

The Local Governing Body’s consultation period will run from 3 December 2021 to 14 January 2022.  If you would like to submit any comments or views on these changes, please do so by emailing the school’s Admission Officer at or by post to Mrs N Evans, Admissions Officer, Guildford County School, Farnham Road, Guildford, GU2 4LU

Please see below for a summary of the changes and attached proposed admission arrangements.

The changes being proposed for this school are as follows:

Proposed change 1

  • Currently, siblings of students from outside the school who join our Sixth Form on 1st September are able to apply under the sibling criterion for a younger sibling to attend the school in Years 7-11.  The school’s Local Governing Body proposes allowing the sibling criterion to be used only if the student joining the Sixth Form has attended the main school in Years 7-11.

Proposed change 2

  • Currently we do not stipulate the length of tenancy agreement required in order to fairly obtain and keep a place at the school in Years 7-11, should one be gained using the address of a rented property. As such, the school’s Local Governing Body proposes adding a clause to clarify that the shortest rental term allowed will be for no less than 6 months, and that should the contract be terminated sooner than 6 months in cases where a child has gained a place using the address, the child is at risk of having the place withdrawn.

After the closing date, responses will be collated and presented to the school’s Local Governing body.  They will decide whether or not to proceed with the proposed changes as well as determine the admission arrangements for Guildford County School for 2023/24.  The Governing body’s decision will then be ratified at the LGB on 7 February 2022.  Once determined, the final admission arrangements for 2023/24 will be published on the Guildford County School website by 15th March 2022.
