17th June 2022Boy's ChoirWe are very proud of our rich provision of musical ensembles and choirs at County. One of these is our large Boys Choir. It has been a tradition, that, in order to inspire Year 5 and Year 6 boys to sing, we have taken this choir out to a variety of Primary schools each year. However, like so many live events, this has not been able to happen for three years due to the pandemic. In order to uphold and honour this tradition; this year we have created a short film. This will be shown to our feeder primary schools with the intention of promoting and inspiring boys singing as an accepted part of the culture here at County. All of the boys involved have seen this and we wanted to also share it with you. Please do enjoy. Read Full Article
14th June 2022Lower School Concert 2022The Guildford County School Music Department are proud to present the Lower School Concert video. Sit back and enjoy a selection of solo and ensemble performances from our Year 7, 8 and 9 students. These students have missed out on many opportunities to perform at school because of Covid-19, but they jumped at the chance to perform for us digitally. We're very grateful for their dedication and commitment to the Musical life here at County and we couldn't have re-sparked our co-curricular activities without them. With special thanks to Mrs Gale for piano accompaniment, Mr Fleetwood for recording and editing and our A Level Music Technology students for their support on the day. House Music makes a welcome return after a 3 year absence. On 14th July the whole school is involved in both performing and as an audience. This is entirely run and led by our wonderful 6th form students. Each House is competing for the overall House Music Cup and House Song prize with a further twenty minute programme offered that covers a wide range of genres, from Classical to jazz. This year our Adjudicator is former Piano Professor at the Royal Academy of Music - Graeme Humphreys. We welcome family and friends to our evening performances of our commended items and prize winners in the Main Hall at 7pm. There is no charge for this concert. Read Full Article
2nd December 2021Planning proposal for Urn Field rejectedGuildford County School and Tormead School are disappointed by Guildford Borough Council's decision on the 1st of December 2021, to reject the planning proposal to improve the existing sports facilities at the Urn Field sports ground. The proposal, which had been recommended for approval by the planning department, would have afforded school children, through a partnership between the state and independent school sectors, access to a range of additional facilities and increased opportunities for playing sport, as well as community sports groups. In a joint statement, Mr David Boyd, Head at Tormead School, and Mr Steve Smith, Head of Guildford County School, have said, "We remain committed to this project, believing in the positive sporting benefits that it will bring for our pupils, and we are actively considering our next steps, including the right of appeal, against the committee’s decisions."
