Friends of GCS

A warm welcome to all parents, carers, relatives and friends of Guildford County School.

The Friends of GCS is a registered charity run by a committee of enthusiastic volunteer parents and school representatives.

The aims of the charity are to provide a sense of community between parents, students and the school as well as raising funds for large and small projects to benefit our students.

New committee members are always welcome as are people who don’t want to attend the meetings but are willing to help at one or more events throughout the year.

The committee generally meet once a term and the AGM is held towards the end of September each year.

Each year the profit raised is split between a major project and curriculum bursaries or the ‘subject wish list’.  In the past, items purchased have included inventor kits to support learning in IT, a weather station for geography, extra text books for English, dictionaries for foreign languages as well as crash mats for PE. In support of the new Sports Hall, a major fundraising target of £60,000 was achieved in 2019.

The main project this year is to replace a 17 seater minibus.   The school has one that is on its last legs and is costing a fortune in repairs. The minibus is invaluable and used across the school community from taking teams to quizzes, competitions and sporting events to DofE, field and residential trips. The fundraising target is £17,000.

Covid-19 has prevented any of our social events from taking place and for the foreseeable future we are reliant on parent donation, give-as-you-earn, give-as-you-shop, Guildford Lottery subscriptions and second hand uniform sales.

It really has to be a team effort if we are to succeed in achieving this target so please email if you would like any more information and follow us on social media to keep up to date with our activities.
