Medical
To ensure that we can support students in the best way possible medically, please can we ask you to assist us when it comes to the following regarding medical issues:
1) The School Office can give one paracetamol every four hours if you have given consent. You will have been asked for this when your child joined the school. Please ensure you have given consent when your child joins the school. We have contacted any parents for whom we do not hold consent.
2) Please ensure the school is aware of any medical conditions your child has, especially allergies. (Please note that whilst we do not serve nuts or nut products in our school canteen or food tech lessons, we cannot guarantee to being a completely nut free school.)
3) If your child carries an epipen, inhaler or are diabetic should carry, please ensure they have any medication they may need in an emergency with them at all times, including when changing for PE, going on school trips, or in exams, as well as at break and lunch. If they have spare medication we can keep this in the office for you.
4) If your child requires medication to be administered by the School Office, please read the following statement:
Legally schools are not compelled to administer medication to students because of the risks involved and possible legal consequences. However, it is the policy of Guildford County school, wherever possible, to work in partnership with parents, students and governors by allowing the safe administration of medicines during school hours by the appointed First Aiders.
If a student needs to take regular medication during the school hours, they are permitted to bring in a small amount of the medication to be administered at the appropriate time. This will also apply to occasional medication needed to recover from an illness e.g. antibiotics.
These medications should be held in the school office and the medication consent form (below) should be completed to ensure that the correct dosage has been given. Medication should be provided in the original packaging showing the name of the student and retain the pharmacist's label.
4) If your child has to attend hospital / urgent treatment centre, following an accident or illness at school, please ensure you update the school on any outcome of this visit. This is especially important if your child is going to be absent from school or if you need further support from the school. Please note that in the event of a medically diagnosed concussion it is NHS advice to avoid contact sports for three weeks.
