GCSE Results

Thursday August 25th 2016: Guildford County School Headteacher Jack Mayhew’s statement on 2016 GCSE results at Guildford County School:

"I am delighted to announce an excellent set of GCSE results this year. 78% of students achieved the new English and Maths progress measure, with 34% achieving the EBacc threshold. We are pleased that 83% of our students gained 5 or more A*-C grades, with 76% gaining 5 or more GCSEs at A*-C grades including English and Maths - a 6 and 5 percentage point increase on last year’s results respectively. This year also saw 35% of all grades awarded were A* or A grade, 61% A*-B, with an overall pass rate of 99%. Our attainment 8 score currently reads at 5.89, the highest in the school’s history, making the average grade awarded a B grade.

Once again, being with our students in the Sixth Form common room today collecting their results is a privilege. The students’ smiles express their delight at their well-deserved achievements - it is great to see them securely making the next step in their lives. I would like to congratulate both students and staff alike for their tremendous efforts in achieving these results. We look forward to welcoming back the students into the sixth form in September.

Deserving of a special mention are Sofia Mashanovich for achieving an outstanding 12A*’s and 1 A* Distinction grade, Kay Raftery for achieving an excellent 11A* grades and 2 A’s, Joseph Lockhart for securing an impressive 9 A* grades, 1 A* Distinction and 3 A’s, and Serena Ho who was awarded a fantastic 7 A*s, 5 As and 2 B grades. Also worthy of note are Ainaz Ghader who topped the value added charts, achieving 5 As, 7 Bs and 1 C grades, these results are on average 1 and a half grades above her individual targets in each subject - a fantastic achievement."
