‘A’ Level Recital Evening

This year, both the AS and A2 music students elected, that instead of simply recording their ‘A’ level performances to send off to the examination board, they would present their achievements as a recital.

So it was an intimate evening on the 23rd April when friends and family gathered to appreciate, not only the hours of practise put in by each student, but also their undoubted talents.

Charli Rouse opened this evening with songs ranging from acoustic pop ballad accompanied by Joe Lewis on the guitar through to grand scale numbers from the shows. She demonstrated a large vocal range and an array of dynamic colour.

Alex Delittle offered performances on his bass trombone – an instrument still on the national endangered list! His repertoire displayed the full range and character of the instrument in his three 20th century classical and jazz pieces.

Catrin Wayland treated the audience to 3 contrasting songs in Italian and English, which displayed her excellent diction, dynamic and tonal range.

Rhiannon Stubbs offered the ‘Rondo’ movement from the G Major Violin Concerto as her recital piece. This displayed a range of technique from lyrical phrasing through to rapid scalic passages.

Katie Lam presented an entirely 19th and 20th century vocal programme, in both German and English, allowing her to communicate technical and musical depth and intensity.

Alex Parker presented 3 piano pieces composed by Beethoven and Gershwin respectively. These were performed with energy and commitment throughout and demonstrated the versatility of his musicality.

Max Riley Gould closed the evening with a range of tenor saxophone pieces, from Blues to Bebop, and was accompanied with equal energy by his trio and senior members of the GCS Big Band.

The guest singer on this occasion was Fergus Hamilton

So many thanks and congratulations go to all the performers. Of course we provided them with an audience, but all those who attended will agree that they provided us with an awful lot more.
